Promoting Digital Literacy Through English Proficiency
Life, as we knew it today, was greatly influenced by technological advances of the last century. The birth of the Internet and the World Wide Web, the development of user-friendly software, the development of information technology, and the wide-scale production of computers have had an impact on every aspect of our lives. Some of the most dramatic changes have occurred in the field of education where technology has transformed the way we learn.
Today, students have a world of information at their fingertips. Computers and the Internet have made it possible to get information from anyone, anywhere, anytime, within the blink of an eye.
The demand for technology and for information continues to grow. Twenty-first century adults and children have come to depend upon pocket-sized telephones, media players, and computer-driven devices. If one thinks about the many ways in which technology has changed the world we live in, it is clear that computers have become more than tools to make life easier- they have become part of our culture.
Computers have also become part of the culture of education. Computers are as common in the educational environment today as chalk and blackboards were in years past. Perhaps the most significant effect computers have on our society and on education are related to their capacity to assist n the collection, management, transportation, and transformation of information at high speed. As a result of this new found ability to handle information, we have experienced an information explosion and as a society, we have increased both our use and our production of information of all kinds.
As people living within this information-driven society, we not only benefit from the availability of information but also are challenged to keep up with the information that is bombarding us from all directions. Information, knowledge, and English proficiency have become valuable commodities, and the ability to gather and evaluate information efficiently and effectively has become a 21st-century life skill leading to digital literacy.

CHEMERGY: Chemistry and Science Clubbing in Synergy
Chemistry is one of the most hated subjects by students. It's because there are so many things to be understood in this subject and in our minds, chemistry is really difficult. But in reality, chemistry is not something to be feared.
Through chemergy, as the theme puts it, is a harmony between chemistry and science clubbing among kids. The theme means the power of cooperation of chemistry and science in working together to produce a result not obtainable by chemistry alone or science alone. They need each other in order to produce a certain kind of result. Thus, without the other one, the desired result cannot be achieved.
Synergy means together and by this, chemistry and science clubbing can do something that they cannot do when they're seperated. So before this happens, we need to love chemistry first.

My Teacher, My Hero

Superman, batman, iron man, and the fantastic 4? Are they called heroes? The answer is yes. But, only in movies. They can save the world and have super strengths in the screen but not in reality.
In our modern generation, heroes are not those who can save us from super villains. The person who deserves to be called a hero is a teacher, our teachers. Without them, there are no doctors, engineers, lawyers, and even the presidents. Imagine the world without teachers. We don't know how to read, write, and there is no communication. Only sign languages. Can you even imagine that?
Teachers are our educators. They play a very important role in our lives. And they are not just simply teachers. They can be our parents when we have problems, friends when we're down, and a sister to lean on.
I salute all the teachers and I want to give them my sincere gratitude for their sacrifices to us just to be educated. My teacher really is my hero.

My Supermom
There are lots of kinds of heroes in our world today. Heroes in movies are what they call "who saves the world". One is superman, the most famous and known hero. He can fly and he has super powers(but it is only a fiction). All of us can be a hero, not because of super strengths, but because of our good, kind hearts.
In my world, my super hero is my mom. She is my "supermom". I'm not a fan of action heroes, rather, REAL heroes. My mom loves us dearly. She helps and supports us in every way that she can. Even though we're not together, even though we seldom see each other, she is always there every time we need her. But sadly, she cannot take care of us when we're sick. She's not here with us as we grow older and older everyday. And we're used to that already. We learned to stand on our own without her guide always. To be strong in every trials and problems that we face. Thanks to our mom. She saves us from harm, fights the evil hindrances in our lives, and protects us from the super evil villain called temptation.

State of the Nation Address 2011
Every year, the leader or the President of a country delivers their SONA(State of the Nation address). It is held during the last Monday of the month of July. SONA is a summary of all the projects, problems to be solved, and the works done by the President for his country. It is where all the leaders, senators and other persons which has a high position in the government or the whole country to have a meeting or assembly about that. SONA determines whether a country had gone through a progress or not.
The President of the Republic of the Philippines, Pres. Benigno "Simeon" Cojuanco Aquino III, delivered his SONA last July 25th, 2011. He mentioned all the problems suffered by his fellow country-men. This includes the prohibitation of the of the Tobacco Company for the sake of Filipinos. Cigarette is not good to our health so Tobacco Companies must be closed to avoid lung cancer that can also cause death. This is only one of the problems he mentioned and there are lot more.
My only concern is that I think he can't do all the things he said. Because he mentioned so many things. And the works he had done is only few. Remember Mr. President, "Action speaks louder than words". You should take responsibility for your remarks.

"Isulong Ang Breastfeeding- Tama, Sapat at Eksklusibo"
In our generation, our life span is getting shorter and shorter because of the food that we are eating. Some of them contain chemicals and toxins, which is not good to our health. Even babies are affected with it. The milk they are drinking are not healthy enough for them. So, the best way to solve this is breastfeeding.
After pregnancy, milk is stored in the breast of a mother. It is served as the food of their baby. And for your information, breast milk is healthier than the powdered milk bought from grocery stores. The first milk that comes out from the mother's breast is the healthiest above all, it is called the colostrum. This is yellowish and kind a thick.
Breastfeeding, from the word itself, is the way of a mother to feed her baby through her breast. But, mostly, babies drink in a baby bottle container filled with factory made milks. Some mothers don't want to breastfeed their babies. Maybe, their ashamed to do so. But come to think of it, are man-made milks healthy enough for babies? Is it good for their health?Think, think, think......

President Benigno C. Aquino III
President of the Republic of the Philippines
Malacanang Palace
Dear Mr. President,
It's a great oppurtunity for me to write you a letter. I want to discuss about some problems in our school, Ilocos Sur National High School. Some problems that can only be solved by you.
First, I would like to ask help about the lack of things in our school and even replacement of classrooms. We need to repair some rooms for safety and comfort. We are lacking of chairs, books, and even computer units. Our comfort rooms are not enough for more than 4,000 students here. That's why it's always gross and smelly. It pollutes the air that we are breathing. Those are the problems in our school. There's nothing more that I could ask for.
Thank you for allowing me to write you a letter. I'm not hoping for all of those to be solved. I just want to share to you our problems. Have a nice day sir! And God Bless!!
Sincerely yours,
Sheena Mae Asistin
